Biography
Francisco “Paco” Sánchez Jover was born in Murcia in 1960. A 2.03-metre middle blocker, he is regarded as one of the best players in the history of Spanish volleyball. He played for Real Madrid, Son Amar Palma, Coronel-Cisneros and, above all, Calvo Sotelo, winning a dozen league and King's Cup titles.
He made his debut for the Spanish national team aged just 17 and represented it in some 380 matches. He won gold at the 1987 Mediterranean Games and captained the team that earned an Olympic diploma at Barcelona 92.
After retiring he coached Calvo Sotelo, and in 1999 he founded Club Voleibol 7 Islas in Vecindario (Gran Canaria), which he has chaired ever since. He later took part in the birth of CV Guaguas. He remains devoted to developing players in the Canary Islands.
