Miguel Ángel Monge

Biography

Miguel Ángel Monge Muñoz was one of the great driving forces behind volleyball in Alcalá de Henares. He joined the volleyball section of Real Madrid in the late 1970s, a historic team that won the league without losing a single match, and was capped several times by the Spanish national team.

After his playing days he devoted himself to developing others: in the 1987-88 season he led the Club Voleibol Alcalá boys' cadet team to the Spanish championship.

He combined the court with academic study. His research on game analysis, which was to have been his doctoral thesis, was published in 2007 by the Universidade da Coruña, which paid tribute to him “in memoriam”. Today the Torneo Máster Memorial Miguel Ángel Monge keeps his memory alive in Alcalá.
