Biography
Born in Mendoza (Argentina) in 1973 to an Argentine father and a Spanish mother, Miguel Ángel Falasca was the setter of the Spanish national team for 16 years (1993-2009), playing 371 matches for his country. He took part in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and orchestrated the play of the team that became European champion in Moscow in 2007, the greatest milestone in Spanish volleyball. That same year he was named best setter at the World Cup in Japan.
He played in Spain, Italy, Belgium, Poland and Russia, winning three Superliga titles with Pòrtol in Palma and three Polish league titles with Skra Bełchatów. As a coach he won the Polish championship with Skra, led the Czech Republic national team and won the women's Challenge Cup with Saugella Monza.
He passed away suddenly in June 2019, aged 46. A visionary of volleyball in Spain, he is still fondly remembered by his teammates: the association paid tribute to him in 2022 in Arroyo de la Miel (Benalmádena).
